Field note, day 1

Por Kobkua Gym: a visit

Por Kobkua Gym, training in the open under an unfinished elevated structure on the eastern side of Bangkok.

Ollie was there. Posted 2026-09-23.

What the visit showed

  • The gym trains outdoors under an unfinished concrete structure, beside a derelict block with its window openings still empty. There are no walls and no door. The matting starts where the ground does.

  • One ring on interlocking mats and a short row of hanging bags is all the equipment that appears on camera. No weights room, no reception and no shop is filmed.

  • Two fighters train through the clip, which cuts to broadcast footage from an RWS card. The cut does not establish that the fighter on the broadcast is either of the two in the gym.

  • The reel closes on a satellite view with a pin dropped at 13.8189271, 100.7294380, beside an elevated road on the eastern edge of the city.

The visit

Every claim, graded

Seen is ours to assert. Said by the gym is the gym's. A figure quoted across a desk is the weakest of the three and never becomes a published rate.

The gym's account, as the reel relays it, is that it opened in 2013 so local children would have somewhere to train and has run on the same ground since.

Not settled

What the visit did not answer

Written down rather than guessed at. One visit does not close a record and a note implying otherwise would be the thing this site exists to argue against.
  • What a session costs and what the schedule is. No figure is quoted in the reel and the gym has no page here we can read.
  • Whether either fighter filmed competes on RWS, which the reel asserts and the footage does not settle.
  • Whether the gym takes visitors at all, or trains its own fighters only.

Day 1, as posted

day 1 of finding the best muay thai gym in thailand #thailand #muaythai #bangkok

@ojcombat, verbatim

Filming a numbered series: finding the best Muay Thai gym in Thailand.

Ollie posts a numbered series on Instagram under a single title, finding the best Muay Thai gym in Thailand. One gym per entry: turn up, train the session, put up what it was like. The account bio reads "muay thai enthusiast", not fighter, and that is the accurate description of nearly everyone who flies here to train. It is also the reason the series is worth reading rather than only watching.

We publish these visits as field notes because the rest of this site is a desk. Every rate here was read off a gym's own website on a dated day, which is a real thing to know and not the same thing as standing in the place at six in the morning. The gap between those two is most of what somebody booking a month actually wants.
