Camp against camp

Emerald Muay Thai or E.N. Muaythai Gym

Two camps in Krabi, set against each other on what each one publishes about itself. Nothing below is our opinion of either.

The short version

Emerald Muay Thai and E.N. Muaythai Gym publish the same figure on every price line they both quote. They line up on 3 of the lines both camps publish.

Emerald Muay Thai

Private is published as a range, 800 to 1,000 an hour. A day is 600, three months 8,000 a month, a year 6,000 a month. Rooms are arranged off site: a resort room is 5,000 a week and 14,000 a month in low season, a fighter bungalow from 4,000 a week, both rising between October and April. Bookings are non-refundable.

E.N. Muaythai Gym

A single class is 400 and a one-day pass covering both sessions is 600. No week or month rate is published. The only private figure on the site is 1,200 an hour for two students sharing one coach, so there is no one-to-one rate to quote. Sessions run 08:00 to 10:00 and 16:00 to 18:00, Monday to Saturday.

Against the country

Each line runs from the cheapest figure listed camps print for that rate to the dearest, with Emerald Muay Thai marked above the line, E.N. Muaythai Gym below it and the stretch between them inked. In baht, Emerald Muay Thai first, then E.N. Muaythai Gym: one group session the same at 400, inside a run of 550 that 31 of 44 listed camps print. Rates only one of the two publishes are left out, because a line carrying one mark says nothing about two camps.

They quote the same figure on 3 lines: one group session, sessions a day and takes beginners.

What we cannot tell you yet

Neither camp has been confirmed on the lines below, so this page does not compare them. They are named rather than left off, because a comparison that only shows the fields it happens to hold is the shape of a page pretending to be complete.

In their own words

What each camp is

Emerald Muay Thai

One of the few established camps in Krabi, which is the appeal: mainland scenery and climbing on the doorstep without the density of the Phuket scene. Smaller trainee pool means fewer partners at your exact level. The same operator runs a second camp at Rawai Beach in Phuket, so confirm which of the two you are booking. English on the pads is in writing but rests on one named head trainer rather than the whole floor.

The full record for Emerald Muay Thai

E.N. Muaythai Gym

Two two-hour sessions a day, six days a week, and a price list three lines long: a class, a day pass, and a private for two students sharing one coach. No week or month rate makes a long stay awkward to budget, and the gym has no accommodation of its own. It reads as the daily training option for somebody already staying in Ao Nang.

What people ask about Emerald Muay Thai and E.N. Muaythai Gym

Every figure below is read off the two records at build time rather than written by hand, so a question neither camp has published anything behind is left out instead of answered softly.
Is Emerald Muay Thai or E.N. Muaythai Gym cheaper?
Neither. Emerald Muay Thai and E.N. Muaythai Gym both print a single group session at 400 baht. A cheaper month is not a cheaper trip. Food, a room where the camp has none and the flight home all sit outside these figures, and a camp that is 2,000 baht dearer a month is the cheaper of the two the moment it saves you a daily taxi.
What is the difference between Emerald Muay Thai and E.N. Muaythai Gym?
On paper, nothing. All 3 lines both camps publish come out the same, which is a real finding and not a gap in the record. Emerald Muay Thai publishes a week of unlimited training, a month of unlimited training, a private session, whether there are rooms on site and whether the trainers speak English. E.N. Muaythai Gym publishes none of those. What separates two camps on the mats is the trainer you get put with, and no camp publishes that. Use the lines above to cut the list down, then ask both.
Is Emerald Muay Thai or E.N. Muaythai Gym better for a beginner?
Both. Emerald Muay Thai and E.N. Muaythai Gym each read as a room somebody who has never trained can walk into. That is a call made at a desk from what each camp publishes about who it trains, not a verdict from the mats. A gym built around a fight team will take a beginner's money and leave them holding pads at the back for a month, so ask both how a first session actually runs before you book either.
Can you stay at Emerald Muay Thai or E.N. Muaythai Gym?
Emerald Muay Thai says it has no rooms. E.N. Muaythai Gym publishes nothing either way, so that line stays blank rather than get a guess. Staying in means the commute stops being a decision you make twice a day at five in the morning, which matters more than the saving on most trips shorter than a month.
How many sessions a day do Emerald Muay Thai and E.N. Muaythai Gym run?
The same number. Emerald Muay Thai and E.N. Muaythai Gym both run 2 sessions a day. That is how many are on offer and not how many anybody should plan on taking. A timetable says when the door is open; how many times you walk through it is most of the difference between a training holiday and a camp, and a first week of doubles is how people spend a second week injured.
How far apart are Emerald Muay Thai and E.N. Muaythai Gym?
About 2.9 km in a straight line, measured between the two pins rather than along a road, so a motorbike covers more ground than that and traffic decides the rest. Both camps sit in Krabi. That is a ride rather than a walk, so trying both in one trip means picking a base and paying to cross, or splitting the stay in two.
